When she meets the hypnotically charming and strangely intense Murosky Skaggs, his unnatural curiosity and careful attentions toward her raise her suspicions. His stories don’t add up. Lilly’s search for the truth beneath his lies causes her life to take a thrilling and terrifying twist. What she doesn’t realize is the closer she gets to revealing his dark secret, the closer she comes to regaining her memory and unmasking her mother’s murderer. But something else, something far more sinister is lurking just off the coast. It’s been there, waiting for her. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Deborah McTiernan - Author

On July 4, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Deborah McTiernan was born into a family of avid readers. At the age of 4, she spent hours in her grandmother's attic typing on the portable, baby-blue Smith-Corona typewriter she'd discovered in an old steamer trunk. While pretending to write about the exciting adventures of heroes and heroines set in faraway lands, the keys of that typewriter ignited her imagination.

Her family was transferred from the East Coast to the Midwest. They eventually left the city and settled in the rural community of Orion, Illinois (thinly disguised as Archer's Bow, Illinois in her story, "Lilly Noble & Actual Magic"). It was while living in Orion, Deborah became a life long fan of fairy-tales, myth, and magic. Summers off from school gave her plenty of time to haunt the town library, read her favorite stories on the front porch, and hone her skills as a storyteller.

Her story, "Lilly Noble & Actual Magic" is a pleasant twist to the beloved and enduring fairy-tale genre, and in the hands of this author, this might just be the beginning.

Deborah writes Young Adult Paranormal fiction and lives in Arizona.

MY REVIEW:

I hardly(if ever read)YA books so I was happy to become acquainted with Ms. McTiernan on Facebook and  learn about this book. Blending fairy tales and mythology this book was truly magical. It is a solidly written book although the second half of the book is really when it becomes one of those "you can't put it down" type of books. A sign of a good author is when you come to know and become invested in the characters. Ms. McTiernan does this quite well and you are able to care about (most of) the characters. In particular I liked the candy eating creature called a varab whose name is Reunis. And the lessons taught in the book are simple/subtle. The cinematic writing style really makes the book come alive. This is a completely fun and engaging read and I can not wait for more of Lily Noble and her friends (and hopefully Reunis!)

Even more exciting is that I just learned from Ms. McTiernan that book two - Lilly Noble & Mortal Magic is almost finished.

I'm a total fan girl and will be reading this series as long as it continues.
