BOOK CLUB THURSDAYS: CABIN FEVER

I don't know about you.....

BUT I AM SO SICK OF WINTER!

And depending on where you live, I'm sure some of you can relate. Here in the Mid-West, it seems we are making up for the past few mild Winters.

So we have aptly named this week's Book Club Thursdays Blog- Cabin Fever.

I have a case of it- I am so ready for some nice weather.

So we are talking about a book with a WARM setting to help take our minds off the cold/snow. It's even more fitting since more bad weather (cold and snow) is predicted this weekend for my area.

Either way, I hope you are staying warm(or cool if you're tired of the heat) and enjoying a good book.

My WARM read is:

As You Desire

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Kidnapped, drugged, and about to be sold to the highest bidder, Desdemona Carlisle is having a hell of a time maintaining her English pride. Then she sees the man in black, galloping through the Egyptian desert on a pure white steed. Desdemona could not have conjured a more dashing savior in her wildest fantasies. But an unlikelier hero would be impossible to find: Harry Braxton is a rogue, a scoundrel, and a born opportunist—who has already broken Desdemona’s heart once before.

As brilliant as she is beautiful, Desdemona still hasn’t learned how to stay out of trouble—which suits Harry just fine. Running from a painful past, and rumored to be involved in nefarious endeavors, Harry will never be a proper match for Desdemona. But when she catches the eye of his cousin, the irritatingly honorable Lord Blake Ravenscroft, Harry vows to claim his one true desire, once and for all.

MY REVIEW:

WOW!

This book was stunning. It had everything I look for in a paranormal romance.

Fast paced, hard to put down, gritty, sexy, with great characters and enough to make me want more.

If you are in the market for a new paranormal series, pick up Turned. You won't be disappointed.

MY REVIEW

The thing I love most about all of Ms. Sala's books are the characters and her ability to draw you right into the story.

The Curl Up & Dye is no exception. However it's (in my opinion) women's fiction so if you are looking for a straight romance you might be disappointed on that aspect.

Otherwise this is an enjoyable book. I did take some issues with what some of the characters do, but the behavior is realistic and fitting for the setting.

This was a fast read and I look forward to more books in this series.

BOOK CLUB THURSDAYS: ANIMAL LOVER

Welcome back to another Book Club Thursday.

This week we decided to each talk about any topic we wanted.

Me, I'm a sucker for romances with animals. Specifically dogs. And not just when the pet is mentioned a few times but rather when they have a staring role.  And sometimes the pet can even take of the whole romance!

So, I've decided to list some of my favorite romances starring pets. Most are still available in one format or another and all are worth tracking down.

Happy Reading! And I'd love to hear what you think and if you have a favorite romance starring pets.

   ABOUT THE BOOK:

Miss Piggy, everyone's favorite vamp-turned-mutt, is back for another matchmaking adventure! Shipped off to Arizona to work as a pet therapy dog, Piggy now lives with Nell Jordan, a freelance journalist living a hand-to-mouth existence writing human interest stories and volunteering for her pet therapy group, "Hearts of Gold." When one of the most curmudgeonly patients on their visiting route dies, Nell is shocked to learn that he's left $12 million...to Piggy! Miss Piggy's all-too-human-spirit is thrilled by her nouveau riche status, but foiled by her doggy exterior—and by the presence of Dan Travis, Nell's new boyfriend. Piggy's convinced that Dan's only after Nell's—er, Piggy's—money, and is determined to break them up. But Dan has secrets bigger than that, and as he falls harder and harder for Nell, they threaten to blow up in his face

  ABOUT THE BOOK:

They tried to resist each other, but it was impossible. Soon their passions were unleashed, and their self-control went to the dogs . . .

FBI agent Jake Donnelly is not the kind of man who names a dog “Muffin.” Especially not a jowly bulldog. But now Jake’s Aunt Sophie has left him her beloved Muffin, along with a sizable inheritance that has some strings attached. Jake and Muffin have to attend a two-week therapy course designed to work out any bonding issues they may have.
Enter Leanne Crosby, a pet shrink and owner of a luxury pet spa complete with private counseling sessions, a doggie dating service, and plenty of quirky advice on proper pet parenting.

When the gorgeous and brilliant Dr. Crosby sets out to help Jake and Muffin become soulmates, it soon becomes obvious that she and Jake are falling in puppy love.

 ABOUT THE BOOK:

Part basset, part beagle, all Cupid…

For Nina Askew, turning forty means freedom—from the ex-husband, freedom from their stuffy suburban home, freedom to focus on what she wants for a change. And what she wants is something her ex always vetoed—a puppy. A bouncy, adorable puppy.
Instead she gets…Fred.

Overweight, middle-aged, a bit smelly and obviously depressed, Fred is light-years from perky.
But he does manage to put Nina in the path of Alex Moore, her gorgeous, younger-by-a-decade neighbor.

Alex seems perfect—he's a sexy, seemingly sane, surprisingly single E.R. doctor—but the age gap convinces Nina that anyone but Alex would be better relationship material. But with every silver-haired stiff she dates, the more she suspects it's the young, dog-loving doc she wants to sit and stay!

Love is a Four-Legged Word ABOUT THE BOOK:

Romance is for the dogs...

Tom O'Brien is close to making partner at the hottest law firm in San Francisco, provided his newest client doesn't foul things up. Brutus Stoddard is rich and spoiled, craves attention, and drools. The fact that he's a dog doesn't help matters.

Brutus has inherited a multimillion-dollar estate from his late owner, as well as a pretty guardian named Madeline Cartwright, professional chef and the eccentric old man's surrogate granddaughter. Tom finds her-and her culinary creations- irresistible.

If Tom is to get that promotion, he has to maintain the terms of the will. That means keeping both Brutus and Maddy happy. He's trying his hardest to keep the arrangement professional, but with two clients this adorable, Tom's suddenly craving a different kind of partnership altogether.

Tails of Love ABOUT THE BOOK:

From Seeing Eye dogs to the cat who cuddles in your lap, animals are there for us in more ways than we can count. Helping us get through the day with a wag of the tail and a tilt of the head, they let us know that someone is on our side-no matter what. They also have an amazing ability to break down barriers between people; bringing families and loved ones closer, and giving strangers an excuse to strike up a conversation. In Tails of Love, each writer draws from her own unique perspective on our loyal friends-exploring the many mysterious ways they bring love into our lives.

Again, all of the books are worth the read!

BOOK CLUB THURSDAYS: WEDDING THEMES

Hello Readers!

I hope everyone is ready for Valentine's Day. If you aren't that's okay too. But in the spirit of the day of love, we chose weddings as today's theme.

My pick?

ABOUT THE ANTHOLOGY:

To go down the aisle or not to go down the aisle. Is that even a question? Well, it depends on whether you're the bride or just a bridesmaid-for the fifth straight time. Or whether an old flame is determined to wreck the wedding weekend. It's enough to make a girl say "I don't." Now, these brand-new stories about four matrimonially-challenged women demonstrate how one of life's best days can go so wrong-and still be sexy, hilarious, and deliciously right.

This book was first published by Berkley Trade in 2006. You may not find a new copy online but used ones are available as well as an e-book version.

My favorite story of the bunch was from Cathie Linz. In fact, it's one of my favorite novellas ever.

Katie McCloud makes the assignment bearable, although her perky innocence proves to be an arousing distraction. Then, as combat explodes around them, their only option is flight.

A kindergarten teacher seeking adventure, Katie hoped this humanitarian mission—and the mysterious, sexy doctor sharing it—would push her out of her comfort zone. With Alex, she starts taking tantalizing risks and becoming the survivor she knew she could be.

But back on U.S. soil, Alex and Katie face a new threat, and this time they're the target. Forced into close confines, neither can believe the other isn't the intended mark. With only each other to depend on—and suspect—Alex and Katie can't avoid the simmering attraction between them. But to stay alive, they'll have to trust more deeply than ever before….

MY REVIEW:

ARC provided by NetGalley for an honest review.

I love Cindy Dees.

In the past, I've read quite a few of her series romances. So I was happy to see a full sized mass market romance from her(long over due and well deserved).

She has only gotten better with this longer format.  Close Pursuit  has it all: passion, fast paced action, snappy dialogue and great characters. Ms. Dees writes some of the best heroines I have ever read about (and heroes are pretty damn good too).

It's a five star read and a fresh entry in Romantic Suspense.

Can Foxtrot and her new companions ferret out the killer among a menagerie of suspects—human and otherwise—before death takes another bite?

A TASTE FOR MURDER IS OUT 25FEB14.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

"Dixie Lyle loves animals, mysteries, books, reading, words, bad puns (are there any other kind?) and once had a torrid summer romance with an entire library. Did I mention the books? Oh, and definitely doesn't believe in the supernatural. Nope, not me. Hey, what was that sound? Where's that spooky green glow coming from? Oh, hello, didn't see you standing there in the corner, what with you being all see-through and everything. Want a cup of tea? Moan once for yes, twice for no.

Allegations that Dixie Lyle has a goofy sense of humor are entirely unfounded, and should be forwarded to the unfounded and unlost department."

MY REVIEW:

I was given an ARC of this of book for an honest review.

A Taste Fur Murder kicks off Ms. Lyle's Whiskey,Tango, and Foxtrot Series.

I'm very picky about the first person books I read. And the types of mysteries I read. But I am a sucker for ANY book that gives animals a role in the story.

This book charmed me. A cozy little mystery with a paranormal twist and the purr-fect amount of humor. The mystery was unique and challenging enough to hold my interest.

I'm a total fangirl and look forward to more books in this series by Ms. Lyle.

BLOG TOUR AND GIVEAWAY

ABOUT THE BOOK :

Beaten to a pulp, drugged into a daze, and brainwashed into oblivion, human experiment Lukian Valentin gambles his life to evade another eviscerating afternoon with his trigger-happy superiors. Fifty stories of a maximum-security building and hundreds of trained special operatives can’t hold a candle to his will to escape. Beyond the laser bars of his holding cell, Lukian must surmount the even greater challenges of repairing the fragments of his broken mind, forgiving himself for his unwilling involvement with the Empire, and learning what it means to live on his own.

The sassy and commanding Naoko Nai wonders just what to do with the soft-spoken, socially awkward, and totally ripped guy she was assigned to train for employment. She knows nothing else about him, other than the fact he was granted asylum, is great with a knife, and his little white apron gives her distinctly unprofessional thoughts.

When the Empire comes to collect, Naoko unwittingly provides the perfect bait to reel Lukian back to headquarters for a fresh series of brain implants and repair.

To save the woman he loves, Lukian must summon the deadly powers implanted in him by the Empire—powers he fears he can’t control, powers he struggled to forgive himself for using, powers that may drive Naoko away forever—because no ordinary man has struck a blow against the Empire and lived to tell the tale. To save Naoko, Lukian must emerge victorious from the battle against himself.
