Alison Stuart fell in love with the English Civil War when her father read her The King’s General by Daphne Du Maurier. She has been writing stories set in this period since her teenage years but it was not until 2007 that the first edition of BY THE SWORD was published. It went on to win the 2008 EPIC Award for Best Historical Romance.  Alison has now published 6 full length novels and a collection of her short stories.  When she is not writing she is travelling and has dragged her family around the sites of every major battle of the English Civil War.
Alison lives in Melbourne, Australia. She is a lapsed lawyer who has worked in the military and fire service, with an obvious obsession for men in uniform, which may explain a predisposition to soldier heroes.

(Excerpt context:  Kate and Jonathan are discussing Kate’s husband, the parliamentarian, Richard Ashley)
Kate nodded, a faint colour rising in her cheeks. ‘I had a good dowry and Richard fair prospects.’ She looked up at him, holding his eyes with her clear gaze. ‘And we loved each other.’
Dear God, this bloody war, Jonathan thought.
‘And if it were not for the war, you would be living in wedded bliss in Barton Manor, surrounded by a brood of children,’ he said.
Kate looked away and he knew his observation had hit home. He reached for her hand and when she tried to pull away he tightened his grip, forcing her to look up at him.
‘I’m sorry, Kate, that was a thoughtless remark. I’m the last person who has any right to do that.’ He released her hand. ‘From what I knew of Richard, he did not have the heart of a soldier.’
He knew more about Richard Ashley than he was prepared to reveal. A scholar, not a soldier. Richard should be at home at Barton Manor with this woman and their children. Not dead in the ground at the age of twenty-two.
Kate looked up at him, her brow creased in puzzlement, and he cursed himself for revealing too much.
‘What could you possibly have known of him? The Thorntons have been estranged from the Ashleys for over thirty years.’ This time he bit his tongue and when he didn’t reply she continued.  ‘To answer your question, Richard may not have gone willingly to the war but he fought bravely against the terrible odds in the North. He followed Sir Thomas Fairfax into hell during those early years.’
Jonathan nodded. ‘Fairfax’s men had it hard in those early years.’ He paused. ‘Was he with Fairfax that day at Marston Moor?’
‘Of course,’ Kate replied. ‘Were you there? Is it possible you faced Richard?’
Of course Jonathan had been there with Prince Rupert’s cavalry. It had been a bloodbath.  Marston Moor had put in train a series of tragic events in his own life that had nothing to do with the battle.
He swallowed and gave a barely perceptible nod. ‘I was on the other flank with Rupert.’
‘What did it matter?’ A rare flash of anger rose in Kate. ‘You wouldn’t have known Richard if you had met on the battlefield.’
Yes I would, he thought.
‘That is the tragedy of a civil war, Kate.’
She didn’t seem to notice that he had used her given name. Her eyes blazed with anger and misery. ‘They brought him home to die. It was a horrible death.’ Her voice cracked.
She lowered her head and took several deep shuddering breaths that wracked her body.
Without thinking, Jonathan lifted his hand to her face, tilting her chin so she looked at him. Her eyes swam with unshed tears. Tears he had caused.
‘So many deaths. Too many, Kate. Believe me, it’s not always easy to be the survivor. I may not be dead but I have lost all that is important to me. It’s a hollow victory over death.’
So many deaths...Marston Moor and afterwards, Oxford. He had run at life, stumbled into the path of innocent people, and he had survived while they had died.

Club Inferno # 3
By: Jamie K. Schmidt

Readers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Bared to You will savor a visit to Club Inferno, the erotic playground where glitz and glamour mix with leather and whips.

Deep in the shadows of her exclusive fashion resort, Couture, Colleen Bryant presides over a much more intimate world: Club Inferno. The successful businesswoman and sex instructor has built an empire that caters to the BDSM elite, but now she finds herself longing for something a bit more ordinary: a man to love. She’s not sure how to find someone who will accept what she does for a living—or the kinks that drive her wild—until her old flame, ex-pro football player Chase Fairwood, comes back in her life.

There’s no woman as hot, sexy, or exciting as Colleen—and Chase knows it. He also knows he’s man enough to play her games, and to give as good as he gets. His return to Club Inferno reignites Colleen’s scorching demands, along with a new determination to test his resolve. Soon he’s competing against a rival Dom to brand Colleen as his own. But Chase has a secret weapon: the burning desire to offer his body—and his heart—in sweet surrender.

Fever is an erotic romance intended for mature audiences.

USA Today Bestselling author, Jamie K. Schmidt is a hybrid author who has over thirty short stories published in small press and ezines, and a variety of novellas and books online. Her Club Inferno series from Random House has been in Amazon's top 100 ebooks sold and Barnes and Noble's top 10. She has a dragon paranormal romance series at Entangled Publishing. Book one of the Emerging Queens series is The Queen's Wings.

Jamie holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the State University of New York at New Paltz in Secondary Education English, which is a fancy way of saying she went to college to teach high school English. When that didn't pan out, she worked as a call center manager, a Tupperware consultant, a paralegal, and finally a technical writer for a major conglomerate company. She is an active member in the Romance Writers of America (RWA). When not writing, Jamie relaxes with a mug of hot tea and knits or makes beaded jewelry.

Colleen glanced down at her fetish wear. It was tame for her. Black thigh-high heeled boots, a spiked leather minidress, and matching gauntlets. “You don’t think they’ll buy that this is Gaultier’s latest line?”

“I think they won’t get past your tits playing peek-a-boo. Besides”—Nefertiti held her massively pregnant belly to make sure it cleared the desk as she got up from her chair—”you’re seeing Chase Fairwood first.”

Colleen felt hot and flushed, and then a chill trembled through her. “Oh, for God’s sake, why?”

“He wants to discuss membership.”

Shaking her head, she went through the inner door to her office. “I’m sure you told him over my dead body. It’s bad enough he shows up every time we have an open house.”

Colleen strode into her office’s bathroom and left the door ajar so she could talk to Nefertiti while she changed into a classy red vintage Valentino suit. Her ex-boyfriend—although boyfriend was too tame to describe their relationship—was trying to worm his way back into her life by throwing money around.

“I put him off the best I could,” Nefertiti said from the other room. “But he says he has some tax questions about Mallory’s shelter and clinic.”

After wiggling into her beaded Manolos, Colleen stood up, smoothing her hand down the side of the suit. She nodded at her reflection before touching up her makeup.

“That’s what he has lawyers and accountants for,” Colleen said, coating her lipstick with a shimmer wand.

“His next excuse was he wanted to talk more in depth with Max about modeling for the activewear line. He thinks it would be easier if he had full access to Couture.”

Colleen snorted as she finger-combed her hair. Chase had been a pro football player for several years until a vicious tackle bent his knee at an angle knees weren’t meant to go in. He didn’t need a modeling gig any more than she did. But Max, on the other hand, was married to her sister, Mallory. The same Mallory whose clinic Chase helped bankroll. Max was just starting out as a clothing designer, and Chase had decided to give Mallory’s husband’s clothing line a boost by adding the Chase Fairwood seal of approval. All because he wanted to get back into Colleen’s life and most likely into her bed.

Not going to happen.

A sucker for a happy ending, Shelly Bell writes sensual romance often with a bit of kink and action-filled erotic thrillers with high-emotional stakes for her alpha heroes and kick-ass heroines.
She began writing upon the insistence of her husband who dragged her to the store and bought her a laptop. When she’s not working her day job, taking care of her family, or writing, you’ll find her reading the latest smutty romance.
She currently writes for Avon Red Impulse, Loose Id, and Soul Mate Publishing.

Her heart pounded so loudly, she was sure Adrian could hear. She felt as though she was a gladiator facing her first battle with a lion in the Colosseum arena.
“Come in, Danielle,” said a voice as smooth as Glenlivet and just as heady. A shiver raced from her head to her feet, hardening her nipples and waking the nerve endings between her thighs. It had been years since she’d heard that voice, and despite it belonging to her dangerous adversary, her body reacted exactly the same. As if he’d placed his hands on her skin and caressed her naked flesh, not sparing an inch.
Adrian motioned with a wave of his arm for her to enter first. Somehow, she managed to put one foot in front of the other until she stood inside Cole DeMarco’s lair. Its chocolate walls, the walnut furniture, and the flickering flames coming from the fireplace gave the first impression of a homey, comfortable room similar to her father’s before the FBI had raided it and cleaned it bare.
Her gaze fell on the man who’d haunted her in dreams and tormented her in nightmares. He didn’t get up to greet her. Didn’t welcome her with a smile.
From behind his desk, he sat tall in his chair, his muscular, tattooed arms folded in front of him. His brown eyes narrowed, and he scowled at her.
Her swallow caught in her throat. What could she possibly have done to anger him? She’d only just arrived. Besides, she never elicited a strong reaction out of anyone. She usually faded into the shadows.
He glared at her, a muscle twitching in his left cheek. Then his gaze jumped to the man standing behind her, leaving her feeling as if he’d found her wanting. “Adrian, wait outside my office.” He spoke softly, his voice holding none of the anger he’d directed toward her. “Sedona and Lily, I believe you’re wanted in the kitchen. Thank you both for your services.”
From behind the desk, two naked women suddenly popped up onto their feet, thin, red streaks marking their perky breasts and firm abdomens. Something sour burned in Danielle’s belly. Something bitter and twisted.
These were the type of women Cole preferred.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review as a part of this tour.

I wasn't a huge fan of the initial premise of this book. However as I read this, I found myself more engaged with the writing. This is more than just an erotic romance- there's actually a pretty darn good mystery here. The pace at which the book unfolds is handled nicely even though I felt the ending was too rushed and too neatly tied up. Overall, I wished for a bit more in this book but I must say, the secondary characters are great - in fact I think they might have out-shined the main ones.

It's Thursday and time for another Book Club day.

This week we are back to doing a review.

What happens when you find the right one at the wrong time?
Cara Medlen has a serious case of animal attraction. And it’s not because of all the foster dogs she’s rescued. She’s got it bad for her incredibly sexy neighbor. Her one rule: Don’t get attached. It’s served her well with the dogs she’s given to good homes and the children she’s nannied. Yet the temptation of Matt’s sexy smile might just convince her that some rules are made to be broken.
Matt Dumont doesn’t need his skills as a private investigator to detect disaster on the horizon. Cara is everything he thought he’d never find—gorgeous, funny, and caring. But there’s no way he can start a relationship just as he’s about to move to another state. Talk about bad timing. As their attraction sizzles too hot to deny, they’ll have to make a decision: forget the consequences and let loose, or forget each other and let go…

What I liked about this book and consider it's strength, was the animal rescue aspect.
Probably because I'm such a sucker for books with dogs.
This was a solid/average book with likable characters although they did both annoy me a time or two for various reasons.
I thought it was a sweet romance and liked the fact the characters didn't fall instantly in love. I did think the ending was a bit too much though.

After his parents murdered, Gray is consumed by thoughts of revenge. As the new chieftain of the MacKenna clan, he has reason to believe that there’s a traitor in his midst, and nothing—not even the bonny lass who suddenly drops from the sky—can distract him from his single-minded pursuit of the culprit. While he hunts for the murderer, Gray finds in Trulie a precious companion—and a timeless love.

Tucked away in a five acre wood, Maeve listens to the wind singing through the trees and hears her characters telling their stories. Kentucky—Twenty-first Century

And there he was–so heart-stoppingly close her headlights lit up his face. The bare-chested man raised a tensed arm against the glare. In one fluid motion, he crouched low and unsheathed the biggest sword Trulie Sinclair had ever seen.

“Holy crap!” Trulie jerked the steering wheel hard to the left.

His teeth bared in a defensive snarl, the man sprang sideways. With predatory grace, he swung the massive broadsword in a lethal arc through his wake.

Trulie braced for impact. Instinct and adrenaline locked both knees as she stomped the brake pedal to the floor. She sawed the steering wheel back and forth, slinging mud and gravel through the night. The old truck fishtailed, bounced through twin ruts in the narrow road, then sloshed to a stop in a shallow, water-filled ditch.

Trulie clutched the steering wheel in a stranglehold until her knuckles ached. Where in blue blazes had that guy come from? And that sword? The high-pitched yowl of an irritated cat paired with a hissed “Dammit” drowned out the jackhammer thump of blood pounding in Trulie’s ears.

Granny and Kismet.

“Are you all right?” Trulie flipped on the interior light, clawed the seatbelt out of the way, and scooted toward the tiny, gray-haired woman clutching the spitting black cat against her chest.

“You know . . .” Granny blinked a few times, then peeped over the rims of her cockeyed spectacles.

One sparse silver brow ratcheted a notch higher as she resettled back in the dip of the worn seat and straightened her glasses on her nose. “You know, Trulie,” she repeated, pausing again to smooth a blue-veined hand down the insulted feline’s puffed-up hackles. “If ye wouldna drive like a bat out of hell, ye might dodge things a lot easier.”

Trulie deflated with a relieved breath. Thank goodness. If Granny could still deliver a smart-ass
remark, then Granny was okay. Of course, slipping into her seldom-heard Scottish brogue was a telltale sign that the wild ride hadn’t been enjoyed. Granny only reverted to the lilting roll of her r’s under duress.

Trulie squirmed around in the confines of the truck and peered out the back window. Her frazzled reflection stared back at her from the dark glass. Dammit. She twisted back around and flipped off the interior light then turned back to the window.

Nothing moved but the silhouettes of treetops swaying against a star-spattered sky. The sparsely graveled road reflected silvery gray as it snaked beneath the moonlight. No sword-brandishing human mountain was anywhere to be seen. “That guy came out of nowhere. Did you see that freaking sword?” And the package of testosterone swinging it?

Nobody’s Angel
Willow Park Romance # 1
By: Sarah Hegger
Releasing March 31st, 2015

In this evocative new series from author Sarah Hegger, a woman returns home after a long absence—and wonders if two wrongs really can make a right...

Nine years ago Lucy Flint ran away to Seattle, taking her friend's boyfriend and leaving her high school sweetheart without a word of explanation. Now she's back in Willow Park, Illinois, to help care for her ailing father—and it's no surprise that her ex, Dr. Richard Hunter, is still angry.

Still, she's a different Lucy now. Sober, wiser, ready to make amends to the long—make that very long—list of those she mistreated during her wild younger days. Falling for Richard all over again would mean wreaking havoc in both their lives and possibly squandering her opportunity for redemption. But here, in the place where everything went wrong, is the one person who always felt right, and a second-chance that could be the best mistake she ever made…

Born British and raised in South Africa, Sarah Hegger suffers from an incurable case of wanderlust. Her match? A hot Canadian engineer, whose marriage proposal she accepted six short weeks after they first met. Together they’ve made homes in seven different cities across three different continents (and back again once or twice). If only it made her multilingual, but the best she can manage is idiosyncratic English, fluent Afrikaans, conversant Russian, pigeon Portuguese, even worse Zulu and enough French to get herself into trouble.
Mimicking her globe-trotting adventures, Sarah’s career path began as a gainfully employed actress, drifted into public relations, settled a moment in advertising, and eventually took root in the fertile soil of her first love, writing. She also moonlights as a wife and mother. She currently lives in Draper, Utah, with her teenage daughters, two Golden Retrievers and aforementioned husband. Part footloose buccaneer, part quixotic observer of life, Sarah’s restless heart is most content when reading or writing books.
She loves to hear from readers and you can find her at any of the places below.

This is not your typical romance. There is some pretty heavy duty stuff going on.

And I really have to say, that I really really enjoyed this book. It's extremely well written and thoughtful.

It seems like it's going be a sweet romance(there is one) but this book is a multi-layered gem. It's emotional and heartfelt. The characters are realistically flawed, strong and well developed.

Leave yourself time because once you start this book, you'll want to read it in once sitting.

I look forward to the next book in the series and I'm glad I won't have to wait long.

Yet when she’s stood up on New Year’s Eve, her resolution to stick to her Mama’s Rules for Dating weakens. Especially when she spots sex-in-leather-and-tattoos, Jackson Sullivan.

Warning: Contains several highly practical rules for dating—all of which will be broken in the most wicked ways possible, thanks to a domineering alpha male who knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to go after it...rules be damned.

Born in California and raised in South Florida, I've moved around like a gypsy with a bounty on my head ever since.

Along the way, I worked as a community organizer, a professional matchmaker, a popular blogger, and a crisis counselor (to name a few). All the while, longing to have the guts to do what I really wanted: to write and become a published author. That wish has finally come true and I feel like a karmic cloud has been lifted off my head. Those of you who have also taken a circuitous route in trying to find their path get me - I can tell.

What else? Hmm... I love indie, lo-fi, complaint rock played on vinyl, wearing black because it's slimming, the theater, well-informed optimism, happy endings (both kinds), and making those close to me laugh 'til they snort. I'm a self-admitted change junkie, loving new experiences and places, but have now happily settled in the cutest lil' town, Vienna, Virginia, with my awesome and patient husband and two kick-ass girls.

I was a given a copy of this book for my honest review as a part of this tour.

I read this first person narrative and story itself because it's different from what I normally read. Although there were things I didn't care for-some awkward writing, a bit cliched, INSTA LOVE/LUST.

Don't get me wrong there were things I liked too- it was a quick easy read. Every thing happens FAST and there are some sweet moments in the story.

If you don't mind your erotica(and this story is chock full of some sexy stuff) told in the first person POV, you should give this a try.
