I'd love to hear your thoughts or comments, if you have any, about this novel. I'd also love to hear about your favorite novel by this author (if there is/you have one).

Today's pick:

#1 New York Times bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon debuts a sweeping new epic saga sure to appeal to her millions of fans!

Deadmen tell their tales . . .

To catch evil, it takes evil. Enter Devyl Bane―an ancient dark warlord returned to the human realm as one of the most notorious pirates in the New World. A man of many secrets, Bane makes a pact with Thorn―an immortal charged with securing the worst creations the ancient gods ever released into our world. Those powers have been imprisoned for eons behind enchanted gates . . . gates that are beginning to buckle. At Thorn’s behest, Bane takes command of a crew of Deadmen and, together, they are humanity’s last hope to restore the gates and return the damned to their hell realms.

But things are never so simple. And one of Bane’s biggest problems is the ship they sail upon. For the Sea Witch isn’t just a vessel, she’s also a woman born of an ancient people he wronged and who in turn wronged him during a centuries long war between their two races―a woman who is also sister to their primary target. Now Marcelina, the Sea Witch, must choose. Either she remains loyal to her evil sister and almost extinct race against Bane and his cause, and watches humanity fall, or she puts faith in an enemy who has already betrayed her. Her people over the totality of humanity―let’s hope Bane can sway her favor.

Deadmen Walking is the first historical fantasy title in New York Times bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Deadman’s Cross series. It is a tale of passion and loss, emotions that wound and heal…and ultimate redemption.

Recently, I made it a goal get caught up with Ms Kenyon's books- well at least the one series that I was seriously invested in (Dark Hunters)

In fact, I've spent numerous hours traveling and waiting in line at book signings for Ms Kenyon so I let myself down, I guess, when my reading stalled out when Styxx was published. I didn't buy the hardcover and have not bought one since by her. I am now caught up thru Dragonmark (I'll buy Dragonsworn in mass market when it comes out and I am seriously considering buying Stygian in hardcover). I've gotten off track some here...

Anyways when Deadmen Walking was published (hardcover) I passed because I was still behind(Styxx) and fearing that it still connected enough the Dark Hunters, I didn't want to "ruin" anything.

So... Deadmen Walking is tied into and connected to the DH books but I think you could probably read this without being caught up/etc. Yes, having knowledge of all or some of the DH would be a help as there is TONS of stuff going on here in Deadmen Walking.

I wish an index would have been included to help me follow along some.
This book is not billed as a romance but at the core of it, it really truly is one.
Like Ms Kenyon's previous novels, again, there is a lot going on - skim read/blink your eyes and you'll have missed something. Deadmen Walking also is full of kick ass snarky characters with plenty of action and romance. Also, as the trend has been with her recent DH books, this ends on a cliffhanger note. I enjoyed this book so much I am seriously contemplating buying the next one in hardcover: Death Doesn't Bargain (May 8th).

Deadmen Walking was fun and I think you should take a chance with it.

   Now in mass market paperback
