WELCOME BOOK LOVERS
Thanks for stopping by this week for our Reading Challenge.
Hard to believe the year is over(almost). My last challenge was to read a book with the word kiss or love in the title. I have plenty to choose from on my book shelves. However, I got a bit lazy? Rushed? Behind? Yeah-anyway you look at it, I plain just haven't finished what I picked to review yet.
The legacy of the Black Dagger Brotherhood continues in a spin-off series from the #1 New York Times bestselling author…
Paradise, blooded daughter of the king’s First Advisor, is ready to break free from the restrictive life of an aristocratic female. Her strategy? Join the Black Dagger Brotherhood’s training center program and learn to fight for herself, think for herself...be herself. It’s a good plan, until everything goes wrong. The schooling is unfathomably difficult, the other recruits feel more like enemies than allies, and it’s very clear that the Brother in charge, Butch O’Neal, a.k.a. the Dhestroyer, is having serious problems in his own life.
And that’s before she falls in love with a fellow classmate. Craeg, a common civilian, is nothing her father would ever want for her, but everything she could ask for in a male. As an act of violence threatens to tear apart the entire program, and the erotic pull between them grows irresistible, Paradise is tested in ways she never anticipated--and left wondering whether she’s strong enough to claim her own power...on the field, and off.

Just after Thanksgiving I finally decided to read the book that precedes Blood Kiss in the BDB Series- The Shadows. I waited so long because the last few books in the series were just luke-warm(overall) for me. Well...let me tell you...despite The Shadows (as many of Ms. Ward's books in hardcover format) could be a deadly weapon. Seriously, the book was nearly 600 pages and weighed like 5 pounds(okay so I'm exaggerating some- just some-ha ha ha). But I've digressed-The Shadows was brilliant. In typical Ward style the- high octane, deeply emotional, riveting, heart breaking, open/unfinished story lines- book had me glued to the pages (finally) once again.
I'm very glad I waited to read The Shadows, because Blood Kiss kicks off right after it ends. Plus Paradise is featured several times in The Shadows. I think reading the two books, basically back to back (which I don't often do with any author for so many reasons) has enriched them for me. But so far, Blood Kiss is a tad bit more...tame? subdued? in it's heartbreaking intensity than The Shadows. It's not as dark(so far at least) and has a bit of a different vibe. But I know things are brewing there... and I can't wait to discover what Ms. Ward has up her sleeve...
You can visit Ms. Ward's website and learn all about her books- Website
To wrap up today's discussion, I'm going to touch on my Favorite and least Favorite Reading Challenges(TOPICS) of 2015(be sure to click on the link to read my blog for one):
LEAST FAVORITE CHALLENGE -
This challenge was: A book with poor reviews in RT Book Reviews or Goodreads( two stars or less).
I didn't like this Challenge topic mainly because I had a hell of a time finding something that was poorly reviewed that interested me enough to read. And if I had to pin it down, this was probably the Challenge book that I liked the LEAST this year too. But I kind of cheated and picked a book that was within a sub-genre that had been getting quite a bit of (negative) attention. Take a look:
FAVORITE CHALLENGE-
This challenge was: A book with non humans(can be paranormal or a book with dogs or cats or animals as part of the plot line).
I think I LOVED this challenge so much because I LOVE animals. And, not only was this challenge my favorite, the book is tied as my favorite challenge book(last month's a book that made you cry is the the other). Plus, it's probably one of my FAVORITE books that I read this year. Take a look:
