Shelley Shepard Gray’s first book in her Charmed Amish Life series is set in the quaint Amish village of Charm, Ohio, and tells the stories of the Kinsinger siblings who are each struggling to find both forgiveness and love in the face of tragedy.

Three months ago, everything changed for Darla Kurtz and her family. Darla’s father was responsible for a terrible fire at Charm’s lumber mill which killed five Amish men. And though he, too, lost his life, the town of Charm hasn’t looked at her family the same since. Even Lukas Kinsinger—with whom Darla used to have a close friendship.

Now her brother’s anger at the town is spilling over onto Darla, and she has the bruises to prove it. The accident already cost five lives, but if something doesn’t change soon, Darla fears it will cost her—and her family—even more.

Lukas Kinsinger wants to mourn the loss of his father, but he can hardly find the time to breathe. Suddenly the head of his father’s lumber mill and responsible for taking care of his three siblings, he’s feeling the pressure. He has also never felt more alone—especially with the new tension between he and Darla. But when he learns of her troubles at home, Lukas knows he can’t simply stand by and watch. Someone has to help her before another tragedy occurs.

As Lukas and Darla attempt to repair their families, they discover something deeper than friendship growing between them. But will Lukas and Darla’s love be accepted after so much loss? Or will the pain of the past overcome any chance of future happiness?

I have been involved with prior tours for Ms. Shepard Gray, and was intrigued with her recent Christmas title but since it was ending the series, I took a pass on reading it.

When I signed up for this tour(A Son's Vow) I had no intention of reading this book. I was on auto-pilot and just signing up for tours and not really paying attention. And I had only signed up for a Promotion with this title.

Then I really looked at the book. I was really drawn to the cover. Really drawn. Then I read what the book was about. I've never read an Amish themed romance and I've only read a small handful of Inspirational Romances.  The more I looked into this book, the more I wanted to try it. When I asked if I could add my Review, I was given the go ahead.

My husband had given me a bookstore gift card for Christmas so I decided to get a copy of A Son's Vow. I am so happy I did. In fact, I wasn't far into A Son's Vow before I went and ordered all (except the novella) of the Amish Brides of Pinecraft books(mentioned briefly above).

A Son's Vow is charming- plus it's also set in a town called Charm! I will admit that more than once, I had to put aside living in our modern day world when I read this. I can only guess that A Son's Vow is a fair and true portrayal of Amish Life.  It seems authentic from what I do know about the Amish, and completely captivated me.

The sense of love and community is strong in the novel as are themes of grief and forgiveness. I also found A Son's Vow inspiring, and it is in no way preachy. It is thoughtful.

I also found A Son's Vow to be touching, and heartwarming. Ms. Shepard Gray has a way with her words. Simple yet deep, with well developed characters and setting. Again, I am charmed by Charm.  I also appreciated learning something about the Amish and perhaps most importantly myself.

I am so glad I took the time to read this book. Ms. Shepard Gray is now on my auto-buy list and I excited and can not wait to read the next book in this series.

If you are looking for a sweet, inspiring romance, go ahead and get lost in Charm.
