saturday scoop

Welcome Book Lovers

That sounds so much better than book haters doesn't it!  LOL

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my "scoop" (I'm all about the short sweet spoiler free style of reviewing) about a book I've read.

I'd love to hear your thoughts or comments, if you have any, about this novel. I'd also love to hear about your favorite novel by this author (if there is/you have one).

A former TV star gets one more shot at fame—and it proves to be a killer comeback…
Ten years ago, Summer Butler was television’s most popular teenage sleuth. Since then, she’s hit—what gossip sites just love to call—the gutter. Nearly bankrupt, betrayed, estranged from her greedy mother, and just about unemployable, she’s coaxed into that desperate haven for has-beens: reality TV.
Winging it as a faux PI, she’ll solve off-the-cuff mysteries in her hometown of Sweet Briar, Alabama. For added drama, there’s police chief Luke Montgomery, inconveniently Summer’s first and only love.
It’s when Summer stumbles upon a very real corpse that Darling Investigations takes an unexpected twist. The growing list of suspects is a big draw to viewers, but the reality is that Summer doesn’t know whom she can trust. Someone has written this killer new scene especially for her, and unless Summer gives the role everything she’s got, it could be her last…

I'll start with a confession.

I wasn't a huge fan of the first (and only other) book I read by Ms Swank. It was a contemporary wedding themed romance.

When Deadly Summer came along, it really spoke to me so I took a chance. I mean the cover and blurb just look/sounded so fun and I admit to briefly thinking about the failed TV show: Mystery Girls (loved it).

BOY AM I GLAD I DID!

If you are looking for a humorous mystery with some light romance and a few more serious notes then Deadly Summer is for you- or it  should be! It makes me wonder if I need to check out Ms Swank's other mystery books; I am guessing YES and I will LOL.

But a fair warning - not everything is tied up in a pretty bow in Deadly Summer and I'm glad to see the next book in the series -Blazing Summer and although I see the book 2 of 2 tag, I am hoping there will be more than two books in this series. BTW, Blazing Summer is due out on/about June 5th and I can't wait, because really, I have QUESTIONS!  LOL

I thought the length of the Deadly Summer was perfect, the pacing and the style adding to the over all (lighter) feel. Again, there were/are a few serious notes that I hope will be addressed in Blazing Summer. I'm also glad to see how the light romance and mystery played out in general with enough tease to keep my interest and wanting more.  Huge fan!
