sunday spotlight

carpe librum

seize the book - what a perfect thought!

welcome book lovers

each Sunday myself and my BFF Ann from Romancing the Readers (RTR)
will be featuring /shining the spotlight on a book or book related themes.  maybe it's a book we read and loved or maybe it's something we can't wait to read or a burning question we have...well you get the idea!

we also blog together on Book Club Thursdays (aka BCT) and on fridays (various features).

today my feature is:

Four women.
Four secrets.
A weekend that will change them forever…if they survive.
Katie Manning was a beloved child star until her mid-teens when her manager attacked and permanently scarred her face, effectively ending her career and sending her on a path of all-too-familiar post-Hollywood self-destruction.
Now twenty-seven, Katie wants a better answer to those clickbait “Where Are They Now?” articles that float around online. An answer she hopes to find when her brother’s too-good-to-be-true fiancĂ©e invites her to a wellness retreat upstate. Together with Katie’s two best friends—one struggling with crippling debt and family obligations, one running away from a failed job and relationship—Katie will try to find the inner peace promised at the tranquil retreat. But finding oneself just might drudge up more memories than Katie is prepared to deal with.
Each woman has come to the retreat for different reasons. Each has her secrets to hide. And at the end of this weekend, only one will be left standing.

i'm going to be honest - this is one of my harder reviews to write

for the most part, i really liked this book and will admit that i did find it hard to put down. plus i really enjoyed all the snark and have a few particular lines that i just loved

i did enjoy the lay out of the book and i really really liked Katie

while i LOVED the idea of this book i felt there were too many plot lines and i really wish the author would have tightened that up. also at times it felt like the writing was a bit too abrupt

lastly the end... let's just say i wasn't completely satisfied despite there being resolution

overall despite some lukewarm feelings i would read/try another book by this author
