Sutton Creech was a cheat and a liar. Tate Porter had found that out when he was eighteen, and he had no intention of letting her make a fool out of him again. He didn’t care how much pain he saw in her eyes or how old memories tugged at his unforgiving heart until, the night a hidden secret is revealed and everything Tate had believed about their past is shattered, proving he had let the woman he loved get away.

Between trying to protect his family and running their pot growing business, Tate doesn't have time to play the "Nice Guy". He'd just have to remember the most important rule his father had given them: A Porter always keeps what's his.

"I was born in a small town in Kentucky. My family began poor, but worked their way to owning a restaurant. My mother was one of the best cooks I have ever known, and she instilled in all her children the value of hard work, and education.
Taking after my mother, I've always love to cook, and became pretty good if I do say so myself. I love to experiment and my unfortunate family has suffered through many. They now have learned to steer clear of those dishes. I absolutely love the holidays and my family puts up with my zany decorations.
For now, my days are spent writing, writing, and writing. I have two children who both graduated this year from college. My daughter does my book covers, and my son just tries not to blush when someone asks him about my books.
Currently I am writing five series of books- The Last Riders, The VIP Room, Predators MC, Biker Bitches, and The Dark Souls.
All my books are written for one purpose- the enjoyment others find in them, and the expectations of my fans that inspire me to give it my best.”

“What’s wrong, Red?”

“What makes you think anything’s wrong?” she asked without looking at him.

“You only eat yellow M&Ms when you’re upset.”

She snapped her head up and stared at him. “You were out late last night.”

“I was dancing.” He rose from the mat and rolled it up. “I’m allowed to have fun, aren’t I? Or is that not on my schedule?”

The slight flare of her nostrils let him know he’d pushed her buttons, but she didn’t say anything.

“Don’t worry, Red, I’m still a mass of sexual frustration.”

That earned him the stink-eye. She tucked her mat under her arm and went back into the villa.

And he was stupid to follow her, even after she’d made it clear she was pissed at him. “Red?”

She spun around so quickly, he collided with her. His arms reflexively reached to steady her, and before he could stop himself, he’d pulled her against him.

The next few seconds pulsated with a mix of fear, attraction, and frustration. Her eyes widened, and her hands pressed against his chest. But she didn’t push him away. At least, not at first. Her bottom lip trembled, and her gaze wavered between his eyes and his mouth. Then, as though she’d managed to put her shields back into place, she closed her eyes and wiggled free from him.

Damn it! One day, she’d give into temptation. One day, she’d give him permission to prove how good they’d be together. One day, he’d be free to tell her the contents of his heart.

But until then, he had to be patient and wait for the sign that she’d be open to it all.

“Did you tell Gabe who I was?”

“What do you mean?”

She rubbed her arm and kicked at the stairs leading back into the villa. “He called me Sage last night.”

That motherfu—

Gideon dug his hands into his palms to keep from blurting out the vicious words streaming through his mind. Practical jokes, he could handle. One-upmanship was part of the acting game. But he refused to stand back while Gabe harassed Sarah. “I’ll have a talk with him when I arrive on the set.”

“No, please, don’t make a big deal about it.”

“But it obviously upset you.” He tilted her chin up until she was looking at him. “Or was there another reason why all the yellow M&Ms were missing?”

“Just be discreet. I like my life the way it is now.”

“So I’m not in danger of losing my favorite assistant?”

She covered his hand with her own and pulled it away from her chin. “Not unless I discover Mackinzie Donavan in your bed.”

The acid in her voice told him she knew about his escapades last night. “We just went dancing. Scout’s honor.”

“Then you don’t want to see what ended up on the Internet last night.” She turned and strolled back into the villa with a gentle reminder. “You’re the one who doesn’t want to give Donna Carlson anything to use against you.”

Shit!

He raked his fingers through his hair and gathered up his yoga mat. By the time he went inside, she’d already disappeared into her room, so he sidetracked to the computer station Jason and Raul had set up. “What’s this about pictures of me from last night being on the web?”

Jason typed in a few words and flipped the screen around to show him.

He stared at the picture of Mackinzie straddling his lap and kissing him. The drunken nausea from last night made an encore appearance.

Jesus, I’m in hot water.

BCT~ANTHOLOGY~REVIEW

~WELCOME READERS~

Thanks for stopping by for another BCT. This week we are doing what I guess you could call a theme review.

Although we are each reading an Anthology, we each have chosen our own book.

As some of you may or may not know, I kind of don't always follow the rules here on BCT.  I try, but I tend to bend them a bit to help myself out (yes, that laughing you hear is me).

I don't necessarily mean to but since I have moved away somewhat from strictly reading the Romance Genre, I find myself in a jam lots of times. However, first and foremost I am a book lover. I always enjoy finding new authors and types of books and enjoy scoping out what others are reading.

But I've gone off topic some. Yes, I'm distracting you, so let's get down to it~

ABOUT THE BOOK~

EIGHT PASSIONATE LOVE STORIES ABOUT AMAZING MILITARY HEROES BY BESTSELLING AUTHORS:
Suzanne Brockmann, Julie Ann Walker, Catherine Mann, Tina Wainscott, Anne Elizabeth, M.L. Buchman, Kate SeRine, Lea Griffith
To honor and empower those who've served, all author and publisher proceeds go to the Wounded Warrior Project.
WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT

MY TWO CENTS~

Although the eight romance stories in this Military Themed  Anthology are part of existing series or new series most can still stand alone. I'm not always a huge fan of this type of story line but these authors, for the most part, do a stellar job of handling some pretty heavy duty stuff.

What I liked was how many of the stories talked about ALL the types of wounds our Military Warriors bear (and some authors even touch on the Wounded Warrior Project). The heat and action levels do vary and there is plenty of variety in this mix concerning styles and plot lines. There is the fun and sexy mixed in with the heartbreaking emotional stuff too.

Since there are eight stories, I'm not going to touch on all of them. However my two favorites were Hot as Hell by Julie Ann Walker (Deep Six Series #.5)which is loosely connected to Black Knights Inc) and Torn (Protect and Serve Series #.5) by Kate Serine.

Ms. Walker is one of my favorite RS writers. She just gets it. She always strikes a perfect balance with her humor, heat and action. In this novella, we have a group of soon to retire Navy Seals that are on their last mission~ rescue a woman and an US Ambassador.

I've never read Ms. Serine before and overall I enjoyed this novella that appears to be kicking off a series that will focus on Joe and his brothers. I enjoyed this friends to lovers story with a stalker thrown in and I would read the next the book in this series.

Finally, I'm not saying the other stories weren't good (in more than one case, I just wasn't a fan) but I'd rather you buy the book yourself (especially since it's for such a worthy cause).

~HAPPY READING~

The sign above the glass door to the trendy single’s bar scrolled out “Scants” in hot pink neon, blinked twice, and repeated.
“Bugger.” Holly yanked her clinging sweatshirt away from her body. You should never ask how much worse a thing could get because Murphy’s Law went right ahead and showed you.
The door flew open, and the clamor from the bar roared out onto the sidewalk where she stood. A couple of girls brushed past her, giggling as they hurled themselves into the preening frenzy. On the other side of the window, a mass of beautiful bodies circled each other.
Holly was way, way out of her element. There was no choice, though. According to his doorman, she’d find Josh Hunter in there.
She squared her shoulders and braced for hell. Good thing she had her bloody passport with her.
Holly stepped over the threshold, and the manic melody of singles bars everywhere crashed over her; the clink, the chatter, the bass rumble of male voices juxtaposed against the higher pitches of women. The throb of amplifier and subwoofer underscored the babble and ground out an elemental jungle beat that quickened the blood.
Welcome to the mating ground of genus Homo sapiens. What a bunch of posers. Exactly where you would expect to find someone like Josh Hunter. Proof she and Joshua were an entirely different species. She’d suspected as much in high school. The evidence was now incontrovertible.
Her phone buzzed in her hand and Holly checked the screen.
Emma again. This made it the fifth call in the last hour. What a pity Emma hadn’t panicked four days ago, when Portia first went missing.
She stuck one finger in her ear to hear her sister. “Yes?”
“Did you find her?”
“I just arrived in Chicago.” Did Emma expect her to fly? Six hours and twenty-four minutes, according to Google Maps, and she’d shaved it to a shade under six.
“What have you been doing?” Emma wailed loud enough to rise above the storm of noise around her.
“Driving.” Holly clenched her hand into a fist by her side. Cool it, Holly. They were both worried about Portia’s disappearance.
Only this morning, she’d discovered Portia missing.
Emma, Portia’s twin, had broken down and confessed Portia had left four whole days ago for Chicago. Not only was their younger sister gone, she’d left London, Ontario, without her medication.
The sheer stupidity of it made Holly want to growl.
“Did you find Joshua Hunter?” Emma let fly with her persistent streak. “Portia spoke about him when she called.”
“Yes, you told me already.” Holly cursed her height as she levered to her toes to see over the heads in front of her. “I’m looking for him now.”
She might not recognize Josh Hunter anymore. A lot could’ve changed in the years since they’d gone to high school together. Maybe he’d grown another head, to admire the one he already had.
“She didn’t sound good.” Emma’s voice quivered. “You have to find her, Holly.”
“I know I do,” Holly almost snarled. Four days and Emma hadn’t said a word. Holly could barely get her head around it.
A phone call from Portia, flying perilously high and prattling about seeing Josh Hunter, had sent Emma scurrying for Holly and help.
“I have to go.” She hung up on Emma, still talking.
The name of her high-school nemesis had knocked Holly off balance for a moment. It was not a name she’d wanted to hear again. She shook it off. It couldn’t be helped. The most important thing was finding Portia, and she’d make a deal with the devil if she must.
In his school days, Josh had lived in Willow Park, and that seemed the most logical place for Holly to start. The Hunter house had been down the street from Holly’s, and she’d guessed it was where Portia had run into him.
She’d been hanging on to the secret hope of Portia standing on the sidewalk, gazing wistfully at the old family home. If you could call a house you’d only lived in for two years an old family home.
Holly dodged a weaving waitress and stopped.
The two women in front of her spotted each other and squealed like a pair of happy piglets.
Holly waited for the cheek kissing ritual to end.
Cheek kissing gave way to feverish chatter, and Holly finally pushed past. She was on a mission.
Why had Portia gone searching for Josh Hunter? Holly wobbled on her tiptoes and craned her neck past the mass of bobbing heads. It was one of the questions she’d ask her sister when she caught up with her. And catch up with Portia she would.
The house in Willow Park had changed. Dramatically. Holly had been standing outside earlier, wondering where to go next, when the door to the house opened and luck stepped out—trailing spangles and a cloud of perfume. God knows why, but the woman had been thrilled to see her. Holly didn’t recall her at all. Fortunately, she had remembered Holly and her sisters clearly.
The woman went on to say yes, she had seen Holly’s sister. Portia had been by a couple of days ago, looking for Josh. She confirmed Emma’s report that Josh and Portia had found each other and were briefly spotted together. And better yet, had been able to tell her the name of the upscale condo on the Gold Coast where Josh now lived.
Here the bedazzled woman had treated Holly to an abbreviated version of Josh’s infamy. Most of it went over her head, but the gist was women and more women, and when was he going to settle down?
Holly ran for cover between the woman’s pause and an invocation to God for Josh to stop breaking his mother’s heart and get married already.
So, same old Josh Hunter.
Holly had located the condo building easily enough, and a bit of creative truth bending with the doorman had her standing on the sidewalk outside Scants, exactly the sort of place she would rather chew her arm off than enter.
The crowd in front of her parted and, oh, sweet Mother of God, there he was.

The ache in Gregory’s knees brought him closer to God. Hunger gnawed at his belly and reminded him of his connection with the Lord. For three days, he had fasted and prayed, waited for God to show him the way to enter into service.

God remained silent.

He must pray harder and keep at it until he had his answer. God’s way was not always the way of man and His divine timing did not always answer the impetuous call of sinners.

Something clattered through the bars of his cell.

Gregory started, but kept his eyes closed. He could afford no distractions in his wait for God to deign to speak with him. Sweat broke out on his brow. He bowed his head. “Dear Father in Heaven...”

Another skittering across the floor and Gregory opened his eyes.

A pebble lay almost within reach at his knees, a pale trespasser against the dark stone floor of his bare cell. A thin pallet rested against one wall, stripped of linen except for a rough blanket. On the opposite wall a tiny barred window overlooked the fields were they worked each day. Above it, a stark wooden cross served as a reminder that all here was by Grace alone. Beneath the casement stood a plain wood table and a bench.

The Abbey bell tolled Terce over the undulating chant of the monks reciting the second of the Little Hours of the Divine Office. Father Abbott had understood his need for private meditation, but he would be expected at Lauds.

“Psst!”

Not God at all, unless the Almighty had grown a set of large hands and gripped the bars of his cell so tightly His knuckles turned white.

A dark head popped over the lip, followed by dark eyebrows and the sharply drawn planes of a face many a lass considered handsome.

“Garrett?” Gregory’s knees creaked as he rose. Sharp pain lanced through his long-frozen muscles. Three days, most of which spent on your knees, would turn any man’s limbs into a grandfather’s. “Is that you?”

“Aye?” Garrett blinked away a sweat droplet that snaked down his brow and into his eye. His face turned redder. “Only could you come down, I am not sure how much longer I can hang on.”

“Did you climb the side?”

Teeth clenched, Garret said, “Aye and I am about to go tumbling on my ass, so get down here.”

Garrett’s head disappeared from view as he scrabbled down the side of the two-story dormitory.

If Garrett was here, something was amiss at Anglesea. Sir Arthur might have sent him with news. My Lady Faye. His blood thrummed in his ears. Fresh sweat prickled over his skin as he wrenched open his door and trotted down the empty corridor. He took the stairs three at a time. Unease spurred him into a run.

From the chapel the monk’s voices called and responded in prayer as he entered the kitchen yard. Singing voices reminded him he had left his former life behind, but he needed to check all was well.

Garrett appeared out of the dark shadows around the dormitory.

The smell of incense hung heavy in the air.

“What is it?” Gregory closed the distance between them.

Garrett’s expression was grim, his shoulders tense. “You must come.”

“To Anglesea?”

“Aye.” Garrett turned and motioned him to follow.

Gregory took a step and froze. He couldn’t go with Garrett. Outside these walls was not his life anymore. His calling lay here at the Abbey. “I cannot.”

Sharp strides driving divots into the soft, bare earth, Garrett strode back to him. “You must come. Sir Arthur sent me for you.”

Sir Arthur would not have sent for him if it weren’t urgent. Sir Arthur had sponsored him as a postulant to the Abbey and he owed the man for that. But he owed God his obedience and he had put his former life aside. “My place is here now.”

“Your place is where you are needed.” Movements sharp and jerky, Garrett gestured to outside the Abbey.

He didn’t want to ask the question. It did not concern him. Yet, his stubborn gut demanded an answer. “What has happened?”

Garrett clasped his arm. “It is Faye.”

“What?” His muscles bunched in response. The words rasped from his throat. Dear Father, please do not let her be...

What? Hurt, or worse, reconciled with Calder. He grabbed the other man’s tunic, twisting his hand in the fabric.

Garrett shrugged him off. “I will explain as we ride.”

He couldn’t go. He couldn’t not go. Again, the same tussle within him. Faye or the Abbey, his lady versus his God. It never ended.

Garrett stepped closer until his face was inches away. “Beatrice is worrying herself sick. She carries our first child and if I have to tie your saintly ass on a horse, you are coming with me. Faye needs you.”

Faye needed him. The confusion cleared. It was all Garrett need say. Clean, crisp purpose flooded his being. “Do you have a horse for me?”

Garrett’s grim face softened into a smile. “Come on, before one of your monks catches sight of me and tosses me in there.”
